1、About the Contest
竞赛简介
无论是力图改变社会中的不平等现象、或是希望人们给与更多的关注和理解,纽约时报诚邀中学生们选择感兴趣的话题,向某一特定群体发声,写一篇最多500字的公开信,力图做出积极的改变。
写作要求:
- 着重一个你关心并有所经历的问题
- 针对这个问题相关的群体发声
- 带来改变,无论这个改变是抽象或是具体
- 对于更多群体阅读起来同样是合适的
- 以信的形式书写,语气恰当
- 对于广泛读者都有说服力
- 不超过500字
- 至少包括2个援引,1个来自于纽约时报,另1个来自于其他出处
Write an open letter to a specific audience that calls attention to an issue or problem and prompts reflection or action on it.
Your open letter should:
- Focus on an issue you care about and with which you have some experience.
- Address a specific audiencerelevant to the issue.
- Call for action, whether the change you seek is something tangible,or something more abstract.
- Be suitable and compelling for a wide general audience.
- Be written as a letter, in a voice and tone that is appropriate for both your audience and purpose.
- Also attempt to persuade a general audience.
- Make your case in 500 words or fewer.
- Inform with evidence from at least two sources, including one from The Times and one from outside The Times.

3、Eligibility
参赛资格
全球13-19岁的初高中生均可参赛。
You must be a student ages 13 to 19 in middle school or high school to participate, and all students must have parent or guardian permission to enter.
4、Recommended to Students
适合学生
新闻学、心理学、国际关系、社科;课外活动包括Model UN, Youth Government;锻炼议论文写作;证明研究能力、批判性思维、社会公益心和领袖精神。
Aiming to develop writing skills;
Enriching extracurricular activity profile, esp. students who may be interested in Model UN, Youth Government and related activities and majors (e.g. journalism, psychology, International relations, social sciences, etc.)
5、Awards
奖项设置
获奖文章将刊登在官网。
奖项一般在竞赛结束8-19周后在官网公布。
The prize will be having your work published on The Learning Network.
The winners will be announced about 8-10 weeks after the contest has closed.
