R3有统一的weathering(侵蚀)痕迹
Third. the pendant has uniform weathering. Weathering is the damage to all old object caused by long exposure to water, soil chemicals and other environmental factors. If someone created the pendant as a modern forgery bycarving an image of a mammoth on a piece of old shell, the carving would show little weathering. While the rest of the shell surface would be highly weathered. But that is not the case--the carving and the rest of the shell as a whole show the same degree of weathering, which suggests that both the carving and the shell date to the same, ancient time period.

Conversation1:
讲了evolution of bird flight,有提到archaeopteryx。
L3
In order to succeed in school, students need to be well organized.
TASK 2校园题
Reading:
The student proposes that university should provide all freshmen with their roommates’ contact information and email address so that they can communicate with each other before the school year begins. By doing this, they can get to know each other better during summer vacation, Also, they can discuss what each of them needs to bring (especially the large items) to the dorm, so they won’t bring the same things.
Listening:
The student agrees with the proposal. Firstly, students are more likely to feel stressed and embarrassed if they don’t know their roommates until the first day of school. Instead, if they know their roommates before moving together, they will feel more comfortable and relieved. Secondly, there’s not much space for large items in the dorm. To avoid carrying the same items, a discussion a discussion on what to bring and who needs to bring it becomes essential. For example, the student and his roommate both brought a fridge without discussion, and they took a lot of space in the dorm, making it quite untidy. Actually, one fridge will be good enough for the dorm.
Reading:
Animals do not only need to find food, but also prevent themselves from predators’ attack. Scientists find that animals would like to spend more time and energy on what is hard to get, rather than what is easy to get. This behavior is called priority of allocation.
Listening:
There are plentiful fishes where seals live, so it’s very easy for them to capture prey. Enough fat is stored in their bodies, so they don’t need to hunt for a long period of time. However, seals needs to spend a lot more time looking for a suitable place to reproduce. Sometimes they have to chase off other seals to guarantee their own territories in order to attract the female seals while seeking for the breeding grounds. Furthermore, they also spend a great deal of time protecting their territories from other male seals.
The lecture is talking about the benefits of a long commercial.
Firstly,it can fully demonstrate the product to attract customers. For example, let’s say a company that sells exercise equipment, can demonstrate how to use these facilities to strengthen your pecs and abs. However, a short ad is unable to show this information.
Secondly, we can get the information about which aspects of ads can boost sales based on the telephone orders. Let’s take the same ads of exercise equipment as an example. If nobody calls to buy during certain time, it means that the ads are not effective enough at that time. So they may need adjusting.

An archaeologist discovered a seashell bearing an engraving of a mammoth. Some experts speculate that it was designed to be worn as a necklace due to its two holes, whereas others argue that it is counterfeit. The listening provides compelling evidence that refutes the claims made in the reading, challenging the perceived authenticity of the artifact.
First, the reading asserts that the mammoth carving on the pendant closely resembles ancient mammoths and aligns stylistically with other artifacts. However, the listening material dismantles this argument by highlighting the striking similarity between this pendant and another antique piece. Notably, the mammoth in the French artifact lacks a foot, a detail shared by the pendant in question. Despite this, there exists ample space for carving that missing feature, raising suspicions of meticulous replication rather than genuine antiquity.
Additionally, the reading emphasizes the discovery of the pendant alongside other historical treasures, bolstering its credibility. Nonetheless, the listening introduces a critical time-based perspective. While the pendant is grouped with these artifacts, its estimated age spans thousands of years, unlike the mere centuries-old relics found alongside it. This temporal discrepancy casts doubt on the pendant's provenance, hinting at a potential fabrication intended to deceive unsuspecting admirers.
Finally, the reading highlights the even wear on the pendant as evidence of its authenticity, suggesting that forgeries would not exhibit such uniform deterioration. However, the listening points out that after being buried for millennia, the pendant's wear and tear should have been more pronounced. In reality, the extent of degradation fails to align with the pendant's supposed age, indicating a likelihood of counterfeiting rather than genuine antiquity. The uniform wear may be a calculated attempt to mimic the effects of time, further clouding the pendant's true history.
Dr. Achebe: In recent years, there has been a significant integration of advanced machines and artificial intelligence (AI) into our daily lives and working environments. I would like you to reflect on the following question: Should we extend the same level of politeness and respect to AI and machines as we do to humans? Please provide your reasoning and discuss the potential consequences of adopting such an approach.
Andrew: AI and robots play an integral role in our lives, assisting us in various tasks and making our lives easier. By treating them with respect, we not only acknowledge their contributions but also reflect positively on our own character. It's a small gesture that upholds our humanity and sets a standard for ethical interaction with technology.
Claire: I think we don't need to treat AI and robots with the same politeness as we do to humans. They are tools designed to assist us, and it's important to maintain that distinction. We should set clear guidelines and boundaries for their use to ensure they serve us effectively without overstepping their roles.
