元旦快乐！假期最后一天我们为大家带来了新年礼物，NHSDLC冬季邀请赛同2024哈佛/斯坦福年度邀请赛辩题终于揭晓啦！

参与冬季辩题竞猜的获奖名单也将在今天揭晓大家一定要看到最后哟~

两个备选辩题在国外官方网站公布后，共计收到2449张投票，包括438名教练和2011名学生。

随着人们对塑料污染影响的认识不断提高，反对一次性塑料制品的趋势日益明显。本次辩题中，正方可以讨论一次性塑料对环境造成的后果，以及美国联邦政府随之在环境领导领域获得的软实力；反方则应关注禁令实际实施的细节和带来的影响。期待选手们在冬季赛事中的精彩表现！

TOPIC INTRODUCTION 辩题背景 -

2024冬季辩题 -With more awareness on the impact plastic pollution, a growing trend has emerged against the single use of plastics.

Pro teams must discuss the environmental consequences of single use plastics, which are not limited the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. By entering the water systems, plastic pollution spread through ecosystems and bioaccumulate in bodies. Countries that take significant steps to eliminate single use plastics might gain soft power in the area of environmental leadership. For the US in particular, a Federal Government ban on single use plastics could be perceived as a reversal of unilateral, anti-environmental policies of previous administrations.

Con teams should focus on the details of actual implementation. Would stores be required to provide more expensive alternatives? While the rate of inflation appears to be slowing, could business survive without increasing prices or cutting jobs? The effectiveness of a ban without broader societal changes on consumption habits is questionable and likely to be ignored or evaded. Would states and local areas be better off making these decisions for themselves? Some groups even benefit from the single use of plastics. Many people with disabilities have detailed how the flexibility of plastic straws make their lives easier, along with the risks associated with alternatives.
