Eat corns ≠ 吃玉米

笔者刚登陆温哥华时，看到路旁广告“Locally Grown Corn”。后来，某堂课上，我让学生以My New Life in Vancouver为题写篇作文。

某生写出这样的句子，Ever since I came to Vancouver, I have always enjoyed eating corns because they are so sweet. 究竟“吃玉米”是eat corn还是eat corns？孰是孰非？

事实上，corn的确有“玉米”的意思，但是一定是不可数名词，一定不能在词尾加s。如：

1)Corn is an important crop of our country.

2)They gathered corn from the fields.

3)The cows were in the field, eating corn. corn

还有“鸡眼”的意思，是可数名词，可加不定冠词,也可在词尾加s。

如:

1) The poor man has a bad corn on his left foot.

2) The podiatrist (足医) removed Henry's painful corns.  

所以，eat corn s≠ 吃玉米，而是“吃鸡眼”。味道如何？你品！你细品！
